Europe Trembles: The Arrival Of Trick and Boyt
well well well
here i am (Nathan) in a classic gen y moment. barely having experienced half a day in the splendor that is Islington, north of London, I'm drawn (perhaps inevitably) to the blog we created and to comment as well. But I'm suffering from some pretty serious jet lag, so i can afford to be gratuitous. At least for now. I think I've had something like 8 hours sleep in the last 50 hours. I'm about to have a fit I'm so tired. I seriously felt the room move when i was cooking lunch with nick and he said, wide eyed; 'that's what i thought before i had my seizure'. so now i have to keep writing in case this is my last transmission. which is impressive in itself considering we traveled British Airways, which is like the Qantas of the UK - i.e exploding gas cylinders, plummeting descents etc. lol actually nick and i noticed some guy checking the jet engine with a light from his phone in bangkok. glad to see my dramatically improving life is in safe hands.
Ok, so let's go back to the start. This means Sunday. the day prior to complete extraction. i was feeling such a potent combination of apathy and bemusement that it melted into depression so i couldn't do much but play my guitar after i said bye to the girls from nicks. It's at moments like those when you realise how deep the bonds are between friends even if they've lain under the surface for a long time. Talkin 'bout you phee and jen!
Then jones came over with lore and rochelle. pop was fuming because i forgot yet again to ask if i could have some people over. It ended up, invariably, with me realising in a moment of pure fear and adrenaline that they were in all likelihood coming up the driveway now and asking pop if he would mind if they came over, when his answer was completely inconsequential. not the best place to be in!
After some heavy D and M'ing i set about typing up all my songs to take with me, calling it a night at 4am mon. DAY OF. alarm goes off at 615. breakfast at Lee and Me was really the only option i had. Jones and Al Lewis accompanied me and we mulled over what was undeniably a spiritual moment. Mostly because we were all drawn together by the sight of jones' white body disappearing into the waves in what felt like slow motion. Lol in case you don't know how i roll, the fact that i picked up a contact in France that morning epitomises my inability to manage time.
Ok. so next scene is me, explaining to dad why my bag is half packed and strewn over the table when we're 'already late' when he specifically warned me to be ready so as to not cause mum stress. But the anger passed slowly away, leaving space for the sombre but proud mood that dominated the last hours i had with him. My bags are so heavy! My little acoustic is definitely the sexiest thang i have ever seen. i just want to get my hands on it again now! ok keep moving nathan. so we're at the gate, lore tim and jenna left. no tears, just an empty acceptance of a change in events. or that's how it was for me. But don't get me wrong, the reality was sinking into my brain like an iceberg.
Emma, who Nick and I met on the plane, was a flight attendant and she sat next to us - sitting in the aisle seat that we requested and were promised! She made up with it with extra drinks and food. Oh and just so judy knows, our names were called out in the airport cause we were late. lol. again, my punctuality precedes me. So in the plane now. nick the human bean struggles to fold his legs into the tiny space afforded. i cheer at the sight of 'the dark knight' in entertainment. Even plane food tastes good when you're as hungry as we were. I pretty much sorted out my latest itinerary with an hour of flight left.
I left my passport on a table in customs first opportunity i got. Some australian woman yelled out to find its owner, and thats when i realised i was born an idiot, but a lucky one. My latest accident involves pushing over a vase in Kate's apartment while it was being inspected by her landlady. good times!
Not as cold as i thought it would be today. sooo many well dressed and gorgeous english ladies. all very formidable though! It costs money to use the toilet! beware travellers. I had no coins and was about to rupture when nick shouted me.
Many great pictures today! what a fantastic town! off to the city tomorrow, still struggling to get my itinerary together but having a lot of good times. Much love people! thanks to those who made it this far, i'll be seeing you soon.
