Hello again! I am enthused enough to write this mainly because I know it makes some people happy. Gives a little hope to look forward to. A little window of solace perhaps? Well it's the same for me so thanks again for reading. There's nothing like experiencing something with someone. For instance when I was with nick the other day it was clear that some of the impressive sights (the national museum not the least of which) aren't much unless you can complain to someone as you haul yourself up countless stairs, around countless corners and peer through throngs of ridiculously enthusiastic tourists while struggling to pay attention to what you're reading.
So what's up for us today? well we emphatically set a goal to get out by 9 so at 11 we left, not to waste another precious minute! Heading towards the national gallery we took our staple series of wrong turns, invariably leading us to turn around and retrace our steps. But we did make it! and WHAT a sight! The courtyard was in the most literal sense awesome. and very very clean. Like all of London actually it's all quite clean. That might be one of my favourite features, which makes me sound so much like my dad it makes me shudder.
So after nick's eyes glazed over from being saturated with history and after I had fully utilised the free toilets (I'm learning!) we left for home, deciding that it was important to have a holiday as well as pushing ourselves towards greatness. Our usual stop to Sainsbury's amazed us again as we left not more than 3pounds lighter with 12 buns, 6 eggs, 1L milk, 1L vanilla iced cream and 1.5kg flour. I know you're thinking 'why post this' but you have no idea how happy this made us! Mostly because I am particularly weak when it comes to our cardinal UK rule: 'don't convert!' (i.e. the defeated AUD into the pound). Naturally, we trekked home with our supplies feeling a shade more savvy and independent. Unfortunately we forgot that kate has no freezer, but I suggested we drink it with our crepes for breakfast tomorrow, which cheered nick and I both up!
Ok so we burned some time at home relaxing. Oh quickly it just occured to me that this does feel like home and I think it's mainly because of Katie's maternal abilities, mitigated as they are by her penchant for sarcastic torturing of her helpless tenents. I got to play my beloved guitar! so appropriate. Today was the first day it rained too! I love this sort of weather as you all may know so I'm having a great time.
We organised to meet up with nat jones tonight and had to run to the tube, always in fashion. We embraced, laughed and reminisced our way through Leicester square and yet another Italian restaurant until we found ourselves in the 'theatre' (i.e. cinema) watching Quantam of Solace. wow. So well done and I could critique it for ages but this might be the wrong blog. That's when I realised that, even as invincible, impervious and always, always incredibly intelligent super men forged by the hardships of upper middle class suburban Oz we do in fact have limits that exist outside of all those qualities as I woke up after sleeping through 20m of (expensive) movie. Jet lag is STILL giving me grief and I don't think it will lend me any pity too soon.
But the slow days are essential so the not so days seem all that much brighter.
And I leave you with that!
Keep safe and well. Parents of Royters and Underhills alike, spend well the (considerable) excesses of money you have now you don't have to feed us.

Bonjour les GarÇons
I hope you realise that life here just hasn’t been the same here without you two…..
I can’t tell you how empty the house feels when I come home from work each day…where are the cereal boxes strewn on the kitchen counter, the half empty bottle of milk souring in the sun, the countless shoes and odd socks wending their way from the back door, the deck railing draped in salty surf towels, the kitchen and dining room table scattered with books, papers and uni notes…..I could go on but it’s just too upsetting!
Your departure has had far reaching economic effects too, (positive they may be for the Royters and Underhill family budgets) …but consider the multiplier effect.. I’ve heard that Woolies Figtree is already considering staff layoffs!
Hear that you’re off to Copenhagen, Nath ..is that the one in Denmark or Sweden??? (Sorry katy let me in on that one!)
Take care on your next adventure ..stay away from gypsies and keep all your valuables in your ‘nerd’ pouch esp your wallet and passport!!!!
Look forward to every addition to your blog.
Much love
the very ‘anxious’ La mere de nicentric
